Greater efficiency and lower emissions than traditional heating oil

The heating oil industry, environmental advocates and public officials are all working to reduce the carbon output of homes in New York and Pennsylvania. Rinker Oil & Propane is proud to deliver a product that is at the forefront of this effort. That product is Bioheat fuel.

Bioheat is not your grandparents’ heating oil. A blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil (ULSHO) and organic biofuel, it is cleaner and more efficient.

How Bioheat is made

ULSHO contains 15 parts per million (ppm) or less of sulfur, which significantly benefits your system and the planet. It’s blended with biofuel, a gallon-for-gallon replacement for petroleum-based fuel that’s produced using organic and recycled products like:

• soybean oil
• used cooking oil
• tallow
• animal fats
• algae

Bioheat fuel vs. traditional heating oil

When you compare Bioheat fuel with traditional heating oil, you’ll see that it is infinitely better for your home environment. Consider this:

• Bioheat fuel reduces sulfur oxides, including sulfur dioxide, by 80%, compared with traditional heating oil, and it reduces nitrogen dioxide by 20% to 30%. Those compounds are both contributors to acid rain and respiratory illnesses.
• Bioheat fuel reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 20% versus heating oil.
• Bioheat fuel is so clean that heating equipment burning it isn’t regulated by the federal Clean Air Act.

Additionally, Bioheat fuel — which can be used in standard oil-fired systems with no modifications — has the highest Btu content of any alternative fuel. So customers that use Bioheat don’t need to burn as much to heat their homes and water.
