20-lb. tank
- 18 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter
- Holds approximately 5 gallons of propane
- Very portable, easy to pick up and carry
- Usually exchanged at a tank exchange station for a fresh tank
- Can be refilled at a refill station
- Used for grills, portable generators, and outdoor propane appliances
33-lb. tank
- 2 feet tall and 1 foot in diameter
- Holds approximately 8 gallons of propane
- Very portable, can be picked up by one person
- Can be exchanged at a tank exchange station for a fresh tank
- Can be refilled at a refill station
- Used mostly for RVs and commercial applications
100-lb. tank
- 4 feet tall and 18 inches in diameter
- Holds nearly 25 gallons when full
- Portable for two people (recommended)
- At-home exchange service is available
- For one propane appliance like a fireplace or space heater
2x 100-lb. tank setup
- Two 100-lb. tanks are connected with a switchover valve
- When one tank runs out, the valve automatically switches to the full one
- A red/green indicator tells you when to replace the first tank
- For one or two propane appliances like a range or dryer
420-lb. tank
- 4 feet tall by 3 feet in diameter
- Holds 100 gallons of propane
- Not portable
- Refilled onsite by propane delivery company
- For water heating, pool heating, and standby generators
500-gallon tank
- 5 feet tall by 10 feet long
- Holds 400 gallons at 80% capacity (standard fill)
- Can be installed aboveground or underground
- Refilled on-site with propane delivery
- For whole-house heating and homes with many propane appliances
1,000-gallon tank
- 5 feet tall by 16 feet long
- Holds 800 gallons at 80% capacity (standard fill)
- Installed either aboveground or underground
- Propane delivery for on-site refills
- For very large homes and commercial applications
